F. John Mills, M.D., PhD.
Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board
Dr. F. John Mills sets the strategic direction, quality standards and client service values that position BioStorage Technologies as the premier biorepository in the industry. This vision is grounded in years of practical experience managing global responsibilities for clinical research management and support services.
Prior to his role at BioStorage Technologies, Dr. Mills served as corporate senior vice president and president of clinical support services from 1998 to 2001 for Covance, Inc. (NYSE: CVD), a leading contract research organization headquartered in Princeton, N.J. While at Covance, Dr. Mills was responsible for a $300 million-a-year clinical services division that employed more than 2,000 staff members globally. This group included Covance’s central laboratory operations in the United States, Europe, Australia, Singapore and South Africa, as well as clinical trial packaging facilities in the United States and Europe. From 1991 to 1997, Dr. Mills was based in the United Kingdom as corporate vice president for Covance’s European clinical division and oversaw operations in a dozen European countries. Prior to his career with Covance, Dr. Mills held senior positions in Asia and Europe with Janssen Pharmaceutica, a division of Johnson & Johnson, Inc. His broad range of expertise includes extensive knowledge of pharmaceutical development.
Dr. Mills received his medical degree from Cambridge University and his doctorate in endocrinology from Surrey University in the United Kingdom. He holds diplomas in pharmaceutical medicine, aviation medicine and marketing and has authored more than 40 scientific papers as well as a textbook on aviation medicine.
Wolfgang Höffer, PhD.
Managing Director, Europe
As managing director of European operations, Dr. Wolfgang Höffer is responsible for BioStorage Technologies’ sales and marketing, logistical operations, finance and providing customer support to clients worldwide.
With more than 20 years of management experience in the fields of clinical pharmacology and toxicology, Dr. Höffer has previously held positions with MOMENTUM Pharma Services, PAREXEL® International, The Boston Consulting Group and Solvay Pharma.
Dr. Höffer studied chemistry and biology at the University of Kaiserslautern and earned a doctorate in physiological chemistry from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover Germany. He is a certified veterinarian in the German State of Bavaria.
Lori A. Ball
Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing
As vice president of global sales and marketing, Lori Ball is responsible for BioStorage Technologies’ worldwide sales and marketing initiatives. To this end, Ball drives the company’s new business development process as well as leads BioStorage Technologies’ client service discipline. Her areas of responsibility include corporate branding, global sales, domestic and international marketing and new service roll-outs.
Ball was formerly at Covance, Inc., where she served as global head of sales/business development and global head of supply chain management and logistics. In these roles, she had a proven track record of sales and revenue growth and was responsible for overseeing multiple lines of management. Additionally, she is a known industry speaker and an expert on specimen transportation.
In her role, Ball applies BioStorage Technologies’ best practices, both domestically and abroad, across the company to strengthen BioStorage Technologies’ position as a global leader in sample management.
Ball earned a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Anderson University. In addition, she holds Six Sigma Green Belt credentials and has completed Six Sigma Executive and Champion training.
Steve Naldi
Director of Operations
As director of operations, Steve Naldi oversees BioStorage Technologies’ day-to-day biomaterials storage and sample management functions. He is responsible for ensuring the integrity of clients’ biological materials on-site in Indianapolis. Steve manages the client service processes, and designs and supervises the construction of all operations and storage facilities.
Prior to joining BioStorage Technologies, Naldi spent 16 years as an experienced medical device operations and supply chain professional working in complex FDA-regulated manufacturing organizations with responsibilities for material movement, traffic and distribution, purchasing, global supply chain, and computerized planning and scheduling systems.
Naldi earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration and applied actuarial mathematics from Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I. Naldi also earned a Master of Science in industrial management from Clemson University of Clemson, S.C.
Jeff Clark
Director of Global Logistics
As director of global logistics, Jeff Clark oversees BioStorage Technologies’ day-to-day cold chain logistics for the U.S. and Europe. He is responsible for ensuring the integrity of clients’ biological materials throughout all phases of shipping, handling, tracking and storage. In this role, Clark develops and manages all logistics and customer service processes; defines requirements for the company’s proprietary, state-of-the-art ISISS® sample management system; and negotiates global transportation and logistics partnerships.
An expert in international logistics, Clark has more than two decades of senior-level management experience with leading worldwide transportation and logistics service providers. Much of Clark’s career has focused on developing global transportation and warehousing solutions for a diverse range of industries. His expertise has been recognized by both the U.S. Department of Commerce International Division and the Indiana Credit Management Association, who recruited him to teach seminars on U.S. export regulations and compliance, Incoterms 2000 and letter of credit practices.
Clark holds a diploma from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA). He also earned certifications in international rates and tariffs, advanced cargo agent 803-53/01 and IATA hazmat training. Additionally, he is a member of the American Chemical Council - Responsible Care Provider.
Mike Reffeitt, MBA
Director of Finance and Human Resources
As director of finance and human resources, Mike Reffeitt is responsible for overseeing BioStorage Technologies’ finance and accounting, human resources and administrative functions. In this role, he works with his staff to direct and implement strategies, systems, policies and procedures, and goals relating to the organization’s financial performance.
Prior to joining BioStorage Technologies, Reffeitt spent nearly a decade at Covance Central Laboratory Services. While there, Reffeitt assumed increasing areas of responsibilities within the finance umbrella, most recently as the associate director of the department.
Reffeitt holds a masters degree in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Liberty University in Virginia.
Andrew Mills
Director of Sales and Marketing
As the director of sales and marketing, Andrew Mills is responsible for BioStorage Technologies’ new business initiatives, expanding the organization’s global footprint and building broad-level market awareness. In addition to these roles, he also spearheads the company’s customer service, support and escalation processes.
Prior to joining BioStorage Technologies, Mills held a variety of senior-level positions with corporations in the United States and the United Kingdom. His professional expertise includes sales, marketing, pricing strategy and designing customer retention programs for the technology, healthcare, life science and consumer markets. A significant portion of Mills’ career has been focused on change management, information system security, business continuity planning, disaster recovery and risk management. He has effectively leveraged this experience to improve BioStorage Technologies’ security and business resiliency measures.
Mills received a Bachelor of Science in zoology from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. He also holds the coveted Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award. Mills has lived, worked and learned in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Jennifer Benner
Manager of Quality Systems
Jennifer Benner joined BioStorage Technologies in 2003 as manager of quality systems and was responsible for the creation of the BioStorage Technologies Quality Assurance department. She now oversees this department, ensuring the management of more than 100 standard operating procedures (SOPs), approval of all validation documents for ISISS® and remote alarm monitoring system and temperature mapping of storage units. Benner also created the staff training program and oversees participation in and completion of the program modules by all BioStorage Technologies staff members.
In addition, Benner facilitates all external audits and serves as the contact point for external quality assurance individuals. Benner performs quarterly internal audits of all BioStorage Technologies storage units, project folders, training folders and maintenance documentation. She also serves as the company’s safety officer and assistant radiation safety officer.
Benner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. In addition, she is a registered member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and an affiliate member of Society for Quality Assurance and Midwest Chapter of SQA.
